1978
A group of entrepreneurs created Visión por Cable de Sonora, SA de CV (Vicason), and Visión por Cable de Sinaloa SA de CV (Vicasin).
1982
This year marks the beginning of Grupo Megacable, which would later become a national leader in TV entertainment and information services and Internet by cable services. The company begins to operate under the name of Televisión por Cable, in the cities of Guasave, Sinaloa and Navojoa, Sonora.
1983 - 1990
Four more cities in Sinaloa are added to the project, among which was Los Mochis, as well as four more cities in Sonora, among which was Hermosillo.
1992
The concession to operate in the municipality of Guadalajara was obtained. This marked the new expansion trend of the company. In this year, the company was unified under the name of Visión por Cable.
1995
The legal name and corporate image changes, becoming Megacable. The municipalities of Tlaquepaque and Tonala, Jalisco, and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, join the Megacable network. Operations also begin in Tepic, Nayarit, the first city which was prepared to provide Internet by cable services to our subscribers.
1996
The cities of Xalapa and Veracruz, Veracruz join Megacable, and a partnership is established with the concessionary company working in Tlacotalpan and Cosamaloapan, in the same state. In this year, the corporate offices of Grupo Megacable change their location from the city of Los Mochis to Guadalajara, due to the strategic advantages of this city.
1997
As an additional service for subscribers, local-production channels are created in Guadalajara, Los Mochis and Culiacan, exclusively for cable TV users, under the name Megacanal. Besides, Megared begins to operate in Guadalajara, as a pioneering service in Latin America, offering high-speed Internet by cable.
1998
Escuinapa, El Rosario, El Fuerte and Navolato in Sinaloa, begin to enjoy the services of Megacable.
1999
Concessions for the cities of Puebla and Cholula, in the state of Puebla, are obtained. Megacable acquires 100% of the companies providing services in Tlacotalpan and Cosamaloapan, in the state of Veracruz. In this year, the Videorola channel is born, a successful musical TV project focusing on regional and folk music.
2000
The first tests are performed to provide virtual private network services, aimed at corporate clients, to those who it is offered connectivity and network communications solutions, through the company Metrocarrier.
2001
Megacable establishes partnerships in the city of Torreon, Coahuila, and in the cities of Durango, Gomez Palacio and Lerdo, in the state of Durango, to offer its high-quality services to more people and successfully continue with its expansion plans.
The Megared Portal is launched on line, the first broad band multimedia portal in Mexico, featuring news, services and entertainment, exclusive for Megared subscribers. This portal is available in ten cities of the Megacable network.
2002
Megacable obtains the Gold Star to Business Merit, awarded by the World Marketing Organization. Balance inquiry and payment through Internet begins to be offered.
In this year, Megacable reached more than 450 thousand subscribers. The network was extended with more than 1,400 kms built during this year.
2003
The Digital Megacable service is launched in Guadalajara, Puebla and Veracruz, a revolutionary concept for entertainment, with the latest available technology, allowing interactivity with the client.
2004
The Digital Megacable service is launched in the cities of Hermosillo, Obregon, Culiacan, Mazatlan, Tepic and Xalapa, providing these cities with the most advanced entertainment technology. This year, Metrocarrier begins to operate. Metrocarrier is the business unit of Grupo Megacable aimed at fulfilling the telecommunication needs of micro, small and medium-sized companies.
2006
Megacable launches its digital telephony service on June 30, 2006, becoming one of the first cable operators in Mexico to offer this service. This year, DVR (Digital Video Recorder) services begin to be offered.
2007
Megacable begins to be quoted in the BMV (Mexican Stock Market), under the quote code MEGA.CPO, on November 7, 2007.
Acquisition of Sistemas Generales de Telecomunicaciones or Tlalnepantla, Imatel, Acotel and Telecable Centro Occidente (TCO), among others. Thus, Megacable reports 1,298,438 cable subscribers, 384,794 Internet subscribers and 109,051 telephone subscribers by December 31, 2007, having presence in 178 municipalities in 23 states of Mexico.
Megacable begins to interconnect with Teléfonos de México on December 4, thus being able to offer telephone services in more geographic locations.
